Paul J. Susi
has been an artistic collaborator and UTB troupe member from the beginning, multiple-cast as actor, technician, dramaturg and strategist. He is a pivotal participant on UTB's epic theatre project The Inkwell Communiques, and created the role of Bamboo in UTB’s production of A Lovely Day, and played the role of Fool in Fools Fall.

Paul's work as a theatre artist and educator draws extensively from experience as a librarian, an EMT-Basic, a Wildland Firefighter and a puppeteer. In his native Portland, he also worked as a performer and an educator with CITE, a children's theatre that educates local elementary and middle school students about recycling and energy conservation.

Paul trained with the American Conservatory Theater [STC] in San Francisco and the British-American Youth Festival Theatre in San Diego (BAYFest).

In 2008, Mr. Susi was a guest artist at Shakespeare Santa Cruz playing the role of Badger in the beloved holiday offering: The Wind In The Willows.

Other credits onstage include Zimmerman's Metamorphoses and Ruhl's Eurydice at Artists Rep (Portland, OR), Ride The Red Moon at Tears Of Joy Puppet Theatre (Vancouver, WA), The Drawer Boy at Vermont Stage Company (Burlington, VT) and Project Blue with both Hand2Mouth Theatre (Portland, OR) & Stacja Szamocin (Szamocin, Poland).

Paul is one of the now-not-so-secret tools of our troupe. From his first work onstage for me as a student, to writing a stunning "Ovidible" as the indispensible dramaturg for the production of Zimmerman's Metamorphoses, this gentleman has proven that there are certain spirits who define their own artistry. Frankly, I can't imagine doing my own art in this last decade without Paul at-the-ready, his brain pouring forth its fountain of wisdom. An expert firefighter in more ways than one. A person of profound wisdom who seems to have stepped out of a revolving door from Other Times. And, even with all of that, he groks the power of the karoake machine. Yep, the Muses work through him in various ways.
