Bring back the Symposia! Save intellectual discourse!
(Oh, and try to save the world while we're at it.)
First there was our rendition of the Lysistrata Project, and soon thereafter (as the second war launched against Iraq was in its formative stages) Upon These Boards hosted a gathering of both artisans and concerned public for a symposia featuring Sharron Bower and Kathryn Blume – an evening of creative thought and motivation - within the temple we call theatre - on the Thrust Stage of the great regional repertory theatre Berkeley Rep.
What ensued was an elegant and free-wheeling discussion of the artists' place in the emerging “Art = Peace” movement. A delighted Bay Area audience joined this dynamic duo to hear what it was like to take an action "heard 'round the world."
Sharron and Kathryn provided a provocative follow-up discussion for their global event and illuminated what it is like to be an artist in a country experiencing a severe climate change towards hot war...a worry which singes the souls of all civilized peace lovers.
The evening was moderated by Randall Stuart and featured cuttings from Ms. Blume’s one-person show The Accidental Activist as well as scenes and songs from the UTB award-winning Berkeley version of Lysistrata Project.
The Cast: Lauren Grace, Jennifer Le Blanc, Malcolm Rodgers, MaryAnn Rodgers, Owen Murphy, Howard Dillon, Molly Noble, Darlene Dhillon, Rica Anderson, Katy Stephan, Constance Doolan...among others.
